The days get longer and longer, Annie thought as she sat down. Damn, it was already 8 p.m.! Where had the evening gone? She was too damn old to work this hard and too young to have all the caretaker responsibilities on her shoulders these days. These were supposed to be their golden years! She wondered if she’d ever get past the trauma of the last 3 years.
As she turned on the TV she wondered when her good karma was going to kick in. Lately it seemed if not for bad luck, she’d have no luck at all.
She shook her head at herself. STOP IT! she told herself. You have a roof over your head, food on the table and clothes to wear, a decent job you love and a man who thinks you hung the moon. Quit feeling sorry for yourself!
She settled in to watch the one show she never missed. Her family laughed at her, but she hadn’t missed an episode in 10 years. She sure wasn’t going to start now.
An hour later, she remembered the lottery ticket she bought when she stopped for gas yesterday and decided to check the numbers. She didn’t know why she bought it. In all her years of living in lottery states she didn’t know a single person that had ever one more than a couple hundred bucks.
Boy, wouldn’t that just frost the family if she won the lottery she thought. As the computer booted up all sorts of thoughts went through her head, imagining what she would do if she won. The jackpot wasn’t a fortune by any means, but then she didn’t need a fortune. Just enough to give her some breathing room and take some of stress of monthly bills off of her. Maybe a new used car?
Finally! The computer was ready and she found the lottery website and started checking her numbers. Her hands shook as she double checked them. On the third time she looked at the numbers with tears streaming down her face. As she checked a fourth time, relief set in.
Today’s post is a writing challenge. The bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.
My words are:
luck ~ karma ~ trauma ~ relief ~ family
