Once upon a time, a young woman had her heart broken by the people she trusted most. So she moved far away from them all. She thought she’d start new in a place where no one knew her.
As she settled into her new home and job, she met a man that appeared to be perfect for her and share the same values she did. He was a bit older, but that was ok. She thought he would have gotten all the wild out of his system and he’d be ready to settle down. So they bought a house and started fixing it up. She couldn’t believe how good life had turned out to be, great job, great guy and she could finally afford to buy a great car.
Six months later, she was moving out of the house with a police escort. He had hit her, she now had scars she didn’t have before. Some could be seen, others, well they were the kind that doesn’t show when looking with your eyes. Only with your heart. She wasn’t going to put up with that. Her boss agreed and actually sent a work truck and the biggest, baddest of the crew with her so she would be safe while moving.
A few months later, she had about decided to move back home, so she went to visit a friend and talk it over with her. Her friend’s husband’s brother had a roommate they had been wanting her to meet. She kept saying nope, she was done. Well that night they decided she was going to meet him whether she wanted too or not. As she sat on the porch with her friend shelling peas a blond haired, blue eyed man walked up, sat down beside her and started shelling peas with her.
That night there was a lot of laughter and smiling on that back porch while peas were shelled and oldies played on the radio. As “Unchained Melody” started playing, that blue eyed man from Kentucky jumped up, grabbed her hand and they danced in the moonlight, laughing at themselves for being so silly.
5 weeks later they said ” I do” in front of all the family they could gather together in one spot.
Up, down, thin or flush in 24 years ( and counting) they never left each other’s side. ( Yes I am watching Tombstone as I type)……..
