To: You From: Me
24 years ago our lives changed in ways we never dreamed possible. After only 5 weeks of knowing each other, we said I do. Not sure how we knew it would last, despite what all our friends were saying. I do know you made me laugh, made me feel safe and made me feel loved. You danced with me in the moonlight on our first date. Understood that you would always come 2nd, after Shan.
Our meeting wasn’t random. Friends had been telling me about that “Blue-Eyed Boy From Kentucky” for months. I wasn’t interested. You knew what I had come out of. But there you were anyway with those blue eyes that saw into my heart and loved it, broken pieces and all.
I think it took amazing courage on both our parts to commit after 5 weeks. Most said we wouldn’t make it. But we knew. We’d been through our separate heartbreaks, betrayals, ups and downs. Both of us were determined to make it work. And we have one day, sometimes one step at a time. In sickness and in health, for richer or poorer we did. We do.
Some days we’ve looked at each other and thought to ourselves “What the hell was I thinking?” We’ve made each other so mad we couldn’t stand to look at the other one. Yet at the end of the day there is no one else we ever want to come home too, to wake up next too or share the good times or make it through the bad times with.
It’s by no means a picture perfect marriage. But it’s ours. It’s my favorite love story. Always has been, always will be.
So from me to you: Love you more. Can’t wait to see where the next 24 take us
I know y’all were expecting Sarah and Dorthea. Sorry, these words were perfect for this month. I’ve spent the last 9 months not knowing if we would make it to this anniversary. I hope he’s here for a lot more of them.
Sarah will be back next month!
Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.
My words were:
courage ~ random ~ picture ~ marriage
