What a busy month it’s been around here! Kids last days of school before Summer break, End Of Year Awards, plans made, changed and changed again and I’ve had several Smack Talk lessons. Aren’t you jealous?
In the midst of such a busy month, I had to take some lessons. Probably not what you’re expecting me to take lessons in, but it was fun and Girl Grand and Youngest Grand and I had a lot of fun and laughs.
I had to learn to Smack Talk because apparently I am the cool Gram in the family. Yep, you read that right. Smack talk. Here’s what I’ve learned……..
When someone says “What are those?” I guess I am supposed to NOT answer what with the correct answer. I am supposed to say “Who Are You?”. All of this is said in a weird voice I have no way to describe. Sorry, just imagine a weird voice and go with it. Apparently this is tied into a show I’ve never seen or heard of. It might be a movie, I can’t remember.
To Smack Talk properly you also need a signature phrase. Girl Grand uses BABAM, with some sort of weird hand moves. ( You notice there is a lot of weird here, right?). Just saying HUH? is not an acceptable answer to any sort of smack talk.
Youngest Grand has several but his favorite is “In Your Face”. Who knew? Not this Grams.
After many lessons and learning the proper weird voice and hand moves, I decided that my signature would be one I’ve used for many years.. “Get Over Yourself” with a sort of wave of the hand. Again the weird. My signature phrase has been approved by Girl Grand which means I passed with flying colors. WHEW, I was worried. Don’t want to lose the Cool Gram label. I work hard for it.
I did have several chances to use my new signature phrase.
Youngest Grand: “Grammi, will you get me something to drink’?
Me: “I just gave you some Orange Coke”. (Remember we’re Southern, any carbonated drink is Coke, even if it’s Pepsi)
YG: “Yeah, I don’t want that”
Me: “Get Over Yourself”.
Giggles as Girl Grand pipes up with “BABAM.
Making strawberry jam with Mama and Shan at Mama’s house.
Youngest Grand walks in and asks what we’re doing.
Shan: “Making Strawberry Jam”
Me: “Because it’s good and most of us like it”
Youngest Grand: “When will it be ready? I want some. I love Strawberry Jam”.
Me: ” A couple of hours so it has time to cool. But you can’t have any”
Youngest Grand: “What? Why? I’ve been good and I like it”
Mama: ” You don’t eat anything red. Strawberry Jam is red. Strawberries are red”.
As Youngest Grand works on a response, you can see his little brain turning and Girl Grand pops up with “BABAM”.
I’ve been told that I’ve only completed the beginners level. Apparently I can now move on to Intermediate when they get back from vacation. Yay for me. ( I really need a sarcasm font)
Welcome to a Fly on the Wall group post. Today 9 bloggers are inviting you to catch a glimpse of what you’d see if you were a fly on the wall in our homes. Come on in and buzz around my house. Grab a cup of coffee and buzz over to see what has had everyone else giggling this month.
