LOVE my trips to the Raleigh Flea Market. Even though it’s 40 minutes away, we go back roads so I get to look at things like this field of Sunflowers on the way. Puts a smile on my face every time! Of course, by the time we head home, we’re always starving and that’s where the Crab Soup comes in. Just give me a minute and I’ll tell you about it!
Here are some of the treasures I’ve found roaming the Raleigh Flea Market and there are so many more. Enough for all of us, promise.
Retro phones are always fun, but not sure many of us have landlines anymore
I did come home with some old Mason Jars.
Old tins are also a favorite of mine, but I did keep myself in check. Not sure where I would put them….
I did come home with an old milk can. The top seems to be stuck and we haven’t tried to force it off. Not sure if I am going to paint it or not. Maybe just some clear coat so it keeps it’s rusty look but doesn’t get more rusty? Decisions, decisions…….
Found this for Hubs. He’s such a Ford fan and he did have that one empty spot on the wall in his bathroom 🙂
Found a bead shop inside. Can’t wait to make something with these beauties.
You’re waiting to find out about the Crab Soup aren’t you?
Last time we were at the Flea, it started raining so we headed inside. Fun things in there also, but I prefer the outside. That’s where the old stuff is.
While roaming inside,we stopped at a booth that was offering samples of Darby Creek Soup mixes.
When it rained a few days later I decided to try the Corn Chowder, but of course I had to doctor it. I do that a lot.
Following the directions on the package, I used a can of corn but instead of using milk I used some Heavy Whipping Cream. Then I added a can of potatoes that I had in the cabinet for some reason. Not quite sure why they were there. I dislike canned potatoes in anything. So I rinsed them well. Then I rinsed them again and just for good measure rinsed them again. I know, a bit obsessive maybe, but really what is worse than having a veggie taste like a tin can?
I also had some canned crab left from a dip I made, so I decided why not? Again with all the rinsing because that’s what I do. You could say I’m a tad OCD about it. That’s ok, go ahead and say it. I’m ok with that.
I let is simmer until it was thick and creamy, just the way I like it. The seasoning is just right for what I did with it, other than adding some black and white pepper to it as it simmered.
We’re headed back to the Raleigh Flea Market in a couple of weeks and I can’t wait to get more soup mix and make this again. They do ship, so follow the links and let me know how you like it!
