“Mama’s got this” Sarah said to Hubs as they walked the beach. “Actually, we’ve all got this. I’m amazed that Earl Ray has stepped up to the plate like he has. He’s been there every step of the way. I was afraid he would run and leave it all for me. I’m not sure how much more crying I can do though”.
“Maybe” said Hubs, “just maybe he has realized that you can’t do it all. He loves his Mama and knows y’all won’t have her around forever”.
Sarah gave Hubs a surprised glance. He normally didn’t say much about her crazy family, but when he did, she wasn’t surprised at his insight.
“Your Mama is a strong woman and I am in awe of her ability to make sure the summer isn’t a dud for the kids. I know the surgery was rough on her, but so glad they got it all. Chemo and fighting the traffic this time of year in a beach town has been hard on both of you. . Her insistence of fireworks and watermelon on the 4th was the perfect thing for us all”.
Sarah had been amazed at Mama’s energy the last month. She wasn’t sure what she had expected Mama to do, maybe lie in bed and be pitiful? No, she thought I should know better. Mama’s always had the energy of 10 people and could run circles around people half her age. Nothing seemed to slow Mama down, not even a mastectomy and chemo. Even at her sickest, after a chemo treatment Mama was full of ideas and plans. Just another few treatments and hopefully Mama could hear good news from the doctor.
Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.
