“Lord I need a vacation.” Sarah thought as she answered the door and saw Dorthea standing there. She plastered a smile on her face and said “Hey there! Let’s sit here on the deck, it’s so nice out here with the low humidity”
Dorthea glanced around nervously, thinking she didn’t want to sit on the deck to deliver the news she had to tell Sarah.
As she watched Dorthea try and get comfortable, Sarah had to admire the woman she’d never cared for. She thought she knew why she was here and in a heartbeat she decided to make it easy for her. She couldn’t imagine the fear in Dorthea’s heart for her daughter.
“Dorthea, I know. I know about about what happened before Hubs and I even dated. He’s always thought there was a chance Janey could be his child. But we made the decision to never say anything to anyone. This is a small town, and if we had mentioned our suspicions to just one person, it would have spread like wildfire. We never wanted you, Janey or Dale to deal with it all. We’ve always thought if you wanted him to know, you would have told him. We never even mentioned it to Mama or Daddy. Since you’re here, I am guessing that Janey is Hubs’ daughter and you need our help”.
Dorthea sagged as Sarah spoke. Once again, Sarah had taken the winds out of her sails. She wondered how she managed to do that every time? She gave herself a shake and started to tell Sarah about what was going on with Janey when Sarah spoke again.
“You’re going to have to cook at home all the time she said. No eating out. You can’t forget that! We WILL get through this and Hubs and I will do all we can to help in any way we can. Now, here is a list of foods that she needs to start eating. Organic and raw as much as possible. If she doesn’t have an appetite, we’ll figure it out.”
Dorthea sat there stunned, thinking “no wonder everyone loves this woman”.
She looked at Sarah, “I have no words to thank you for this. Janey is my world, next to Dale. All I’ve done is cry and howl at the moon. It’s overwhelming when I think of all I have to handle these days. How do you make it look so easy?”.
Sarah laughed, ” I grew up with Mama, she’s like a comet shooting across the sky. Beautiful but if you don’t know what’s going on, well, it can be tough. I learned to be tough”.

Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.
At the end of this post you’ll find links to the other blogs featuring this challenge. Check them all out, see what words they got and how they used them.
